National Science Foundation Engines

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Engines program supports regional innovation by funding projects focused on economic growth and technology. Each NSF Engine can receive up to $160 million in funding to drive development. In January 2024, the Central Florida Semiconductor Innovation Engine became one of ten NSF Regional Innovation Engines to receive federal funding, linked to NeoCity’s growth in semiconductor manufacturing.

Led by BRIDG, the Central Florida Engine received up to $15 million for five research projects in partnership with the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida, and imec. These projects focus on semiconductor packaging, security, and microelectronics for extreme environments. The engine’s economic and workforce partners will create a strong ecosystem, offering well-paying jobs and boosting the local semiconductor industry. As one of the largest investments in economic development, the NSF Engines will spark innovation, encourage technological advancements, and boost regional economic growth.

Receiving a grant from the National Science Foundation is not just a financial endorsement; it is a key milestone that recognizes the innovative spirit and unwavering commitment to progress that defines Osceola County’s efforts at NeoCity. – Osceola County Commission Chair Cheryl Grieb

This new partnership builds on that reputation of excellence and helps secure a critical piece of our semiconductor supply chain. – US Senator Marco Rubio

Cornerstone

The Department of Defense (DoD) Cornerstone Award is a program focused on strengthening U.S. industries, particularly in advanced manufacturing and technology, which are crucial for national security. Osceola County has been awarded a five-year contract from the DoD, currently funded at $63.9 million with a spending ceiling of $120 million.

The Cornerstone grant places Osceola County at the forefront of producing next-generation microchips for the U.S. military, which will also benefit the local community. With options for an additional $169 million, the total award could reach $289 million. This significant funding will support advanced semiconductor packaging efforts, which is key to keeping microchip production in the U.S.

State of Florida Grants

NeoCity has received substantial state support to fuel its development as a high-tech hub. In 2018, the State of Florida awarded NeoCity $5.8 million to enhance the project’s infrastructure and encourage new partnerships. In 2022, Osceola County received an additional  $6 million grant from the State of Florida for transportation infrastructure. Both awards came through the Florida Job Growth Grant and fast-tracked the work on two gateway roads—NeoCity Way and Neovation Way.

As part of Governor Ron DeSantis’ cutting-edge workforce development initiative, the State of Florida awarded Osceola County $17.5 million in 2023. The multi-million dollar investment supports the development of a new state-of-the-art laboratory in NeoCity. This new multi-use facility will provide a critical and unique asset to NeoCity. These state investments will boost NeoCity’s appeal to investors and developers and create high-paying jobs, fostering a dynamic “live-work-play” community.

The strategic investments we are making today will help bring microchip and semiconductor manufacturing back to our state at a time when the supply chains are more fragile than ever. – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis
