The Build Back Better grant is powering seven key projects. These projects aim to upgrade NeoCity’s advanced facilities, improve access, and create high-paying jobs that will shape our community’s future. As part of the master plan for 21st-century innovation, these projects put Osceola County on the road to lasting success.

The projects can be divided into two main areas: infrastructure and outreach. They focus on building and developing NeoCity, recruiting skilled workers, and ensuring NeoCity meets community needs. Together, these efforts form a powerful combination that drives prosperity to Osceola County.

Here’s a closer look at what the Build Back Better grant is making possible:

Expanding the Center of Neovation

PARTNERS: Skywater Technology, Osceola County, imec, BRIDG

Project Completion Date: Fall 2024

Osceola County, with BRIDG, leads this project to expand the Center for Neovation for advanced manufacturing. The facility will get major renovations and upgrades in preparation for the new equipment as part of this project. When it comes to chip production, infrastructure inside the Center for Neovation is critical. As their names suggest, clean rooms need proper infrastructure to minimize contaminated chips.

That’s why the Center requires specialized renovations to unleash its potential in chip manufacturing. By expanding the Center, NeoCity will lead the way in the competitive semiconductor industry and place Osceola County at the cutting edge of technology.

Leading Advanced Packaging with New Tools

PARTNERS: BRIDG, Osceola County

Staying at the forefront of the semiconductor industry demands cutting-edge technology. This project is helping NeoCity do just that. It’s focused on purchasing 17 advanced machines that will significantly boost and expand production.

With these new tools, NeoCity can handle more of the chip-making process right on-site without needing to send work elsewhere. This means faster production and more control. By installing these advanced machines, NeoCity will be able to make more chips and stay ahead in the tech world.

Creating a Digital Twin

PARTNERS: University of Central Florida, BRIDG

Within the fab, there is no room for testing since the machines must always operate under precise conditions. That’s why creating a digital twin is so important. This project creates a virtual model of the chip-making process, giving a detailed view of operations.

This forward-thinking innovation lets engineers test and improve internal processes for production without interrupting the actual machinery. The digital twin is also a pioneering training tool. Workers can practice on a virtual system before using the actual equipment. Not only does the digital twin minimize risk and optimize production, but it gives the public a rare look at what making semiconductors is like. Virtual demonstrations make it possible to explore the process without the restrictions of stepping into a cleanroom.

Training Osceola’s Workforce

PARTNERS: Orlando Economic Partnership

Upskill Osceola, aims to break down barriers and uplift skilled workers entering tech roles at NeoCity. It identifies and develops talent from different educational programs and industries, even those seemingly unrelated to tech. For instance, a barista’s 14 overlapping skills can pave the way for a successful move into a technician role.

By expanding qualifications and matching educational programs with what employers need, NeoCity is creating a skilled and diverse workforce ready for today’s tech demands. This approach provides higher-paying opportunities to locals and their families. This project helps reduce Osceola’s unemployment rate by creating a more inclusive economy where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

Connecting for Success

PARTNERS: Orlando Economic Partnership, Florida High Tech Corridor, Osceola County

Catalyst Osceola, manages and attracts businesses to Osceola’s semiconductor cluster. It acts as a central hub, fostering collaboration and growth within this specialized industry. When companies see a thriving, supportive system, they’re more likely to want to join as well.

This creates a powerful magnet for attracting new businesses. Companies looking to establish themselves bring their operations and valuable opportunities to the region. As a result, Catalyst Osceola fosters a cycle of investment and job creation, continuously boosting economic growth throughout the county.

Uniting for Community Impact

PARTNERS: Osceola County, The Osceola Chamber Foundation

This project will make sure the funds from the Build Back Better grant are properly used for the seven projects at NeoCity. As part of the project, The Osceola Chamber Foundation will voice community concerns and organize outreach to inform people of NeoCity’s development. This way, everyone in the community knows how the projects will affect them. Community members will also learn about how they can benefit from the new opportunities at NeoCity. This helps keep the community involved, engaged, and heard through NeoCity’s growth.
